The Sustainability Project

True to our name, The Sustainability Project sustained itself during a trying economy. Like a desert flower, when it hasn’t rained, we may not have bloomed but we didn’t wither away either. This analogy points to the greater wisdom of resource conservation and how important it is to live within our means. We had what we needed to continue our mission driven activities. “Good enough is enough!”

During the past year, with the help of more than 100 volunteers, we:

  • hosted a full calendar of events and activities
  • continued to work on our wheelchair accessible nature center in the Emerson Brook Forest; created a cobb oven and welcomed almost 200 visitors
  • joined in partnership with the Gilsum/Sullivan ACCESS after-school program to provide high quality programs
  • began working with the National Model Forest Policy Program to update forest management practices along the Ashuelot River Watershed
  • began a collaboration with Cheshire Mediation to create a Mediated Home Share program to support intentional living arrangements
  • continued to hold “Houses of Healing” inmate support programs at the Cheshire County Correctional Facility

Thank you for your interest, encouragement and support of this effort and for joining us on our journey toward a sustainable future.

We are grateful for all the individuals, businesses and organizations who made our progress over the past year possible.
