May 15-16, Community Work Day and "Bio-Blitz" in the Emerson Brook Forest
On Saturday, May 15th, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, The Sustainability Project will host a community workday in the Emerson Brook Forest. Help create wheelchair accessible trails and gardens in our outdoor center. Long pants, sturdy shoes, work gloves and a bag lunch are recommended. If you aren't able to do the physical aspects of the work, come anyway. Share your music, poetry and visions for a sustainable future!

Just after the work session, at 4:00 pm, beginner and experienced naturalists are invited to take part in a twenty-four hour "Bio-Blitz" (Natural Resource Inventory) of the Sustainability Project's bio-diverse 33-acre Emerson Brook Forest land. The event begins with a potluck supper. Camping is available by reservation. This event is free and open to the public but donations to help us cover costs will be greatly appreciated. Call 603-357-0860 for more information.

May 25, MCGSSI meeting:Edible Forest Garden Tour
The Monadnock Community Gardening and Seed Saving Initiative (MCGSSI) meets on the third Tuesday of each month, April through October. The group's goal is to improve food security in our local communities. On May 18, Valerie Piedmont will give a tour of The Sustainability Project's Edible Forest Garden located on 57 Emerson Brook Drive in Gilsum, NH at 6:30pm. Edible Forest Gardening attempts to mimic the structure and function of natural ecosystems to create self-maintaining, self-fertilizing, and self-renewing ecologies to grow food, fuel, fiber, fodder, fertilizers, and "farmaceuticals". Come prepared for the weather. MCGSSI, a program of The Sustainability Project, is free and open to the public. For more information please call 603-357-0860.

May 30, Forest Guide Nature Studies Program
The Stewards of the Earth -- Forest Guide Nature Studies Program meets in the Emerson Brook Forest on the last Sunday of each month from 2-4 pm Use thirteen core naturalist practices to reawaken your senses and awareness of self in the natural environment. Jon Young describes these routines, observed in nature-centered cultures worldwide, in his book the Coyote's Guide to Connecting with Nature.
This is a great way to connect with others interested in learning more about the natural world.  Structured for open and ongoing enrollment, the program is free of charge for those who give in return, by scheduling time to greet, guide and share their naturalist knowledge and skills with visitors to the Emerson Brook Forest Center.
