Gilsum Old Home Day Saturday, September 6th, Join The Sustainability Project in celebration of this time honored tradition from noon ‘til night. This is a great way to get that community feeling. There are always interesting activities at GOHD and it’s a great way to meet friendly people. Learn more about the event at www.gilsum.org

Monadnock Seed Savers and Gardeners Meeting Tuesday, September 9th, 7pm. This month we’re meeting in the Piedmont-Fleischman gardens in Gilsum. Gather with new and experienced gardeners in a supportive environment to learn what it takes to grow your favorite foods and herbs and to save seeds of your favorite vegetables for next year’s planting.

September Work Days in the Emerson Brook Forest, Sundays, September 14th and 21st from 9 am to 4 pm. Join in the playful work of creating the wheelchair accessible center in Emerson Brook Forest, Gilsum. This summer, much progress has been made with the help of our past workday sponsors Green Energy Options, Hamshaw Lumber, Good Fortune and Chesco. September workdays, sponsored by St. Pierre Sand and Gravel will focus on finishing the lean-to, fine-tuning our wheelchair accessible trail and landscaping. Come for all or any part of the day. Long pants, sturdy shoes and work gloves are recommended.

Board Meeting Monday, September 15th, 6:30 pm Our meetings are open to the public and we welcome interested individuals. Come learn more about our activities, programs and opportunities to participate. The meeting will be held at the Cleveland Building community room located at 21 Roxbury Plaza, Keene.

Planetary Poetry Saturday, September 20, 7:00pm. Join Namaya, “High Wire Performance Artist of the Spoken Word” and other poets at the Mole Hill Theater for an Evening of Poetry celebrating the Earth.
      The Mole Hill Theater, a metal stamping factory undergoing a remarkable transformation, is located in Alstead at the intersection of Baine Road and Gilsum Mine Road, 2 miles north of Gilsum village and 4 miles south of East Alstead village.
      A suggested donation of $8-10 (no one turned away for lack of funds) will help The Sustainability Project raise funds to purchase plants for its demonstration edible forest gardens in the Emerson Brook Forest.

Gather with new and experienced gardeners in a supportive environment to learn what it takes to grow your favorite foods and herbs and to save seeds of your favorite vegetables for next year’s planting.

Work Day in the Emerson Brook Forest, Sunday, October 5th from 9 am to 4 pm. Join us for the final workday of the season. We’ll be preparing the center for our upcoming “Open Forest” event, followed by WINTER! Come for all or any part of the day. Long pants, sturdy shoes and work gloves are recommended. Lunch is provided, so please let us know you are coming!

Remaking Eden: A Forest Garden Establishment Practicum with Dave Jacke, author of “Edible Forest Gardens” October 10th-13th Learn how to establish a forest garden by establishing a garden in the Emerson Brook Forest! We will spend three days learning how to prepare garden sites, improve soils, properly plant trees and shrubs, sheet mulch, and plant perennials. Both classroom and hands-on learning, including two evening talks and discussion periods, will help you integrate what you learn and experience and to extend it to other situations. Fee: $200-300 sliding scale for workshop, plus additional costs for food and camping.
